Apple is in early development of the next major version of Mac OS X, evidence suggests. The information comes by way of the open-source launchd framework, which is used to boot Mac OS X and manage its processes. Apple Wins Judgment Against Psystar

Apple has won a decisive victory in its lawsuit against clone maker Psystar. Judge William Alsup has ruled in a summary judgment that the Florida-based defendant had violated copyright laws, including the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) through creating and selling PCs with unauthorized copies of Mac OS X. By modifying the Mac OS X bootloader and kernel extensions to allow non-Apple hardware to run, Psystar has violated Apple's "exclusive right" to determine how and where Mac OS X runs. read more...

Psystar Sold Just 768 Mac Clones

In what can only be termed “extremely optimistic predictions,” the Mac clone-maker last year projected it would sell millions of units by 2012. The conservative numbers had Psystar moving 70,000 machines in 2009, 470,000 in 2010, and 1.45 million in 2011. But the real question is how much did Psystar manage to sell during its tenure? An economic consultant hired by Apple, Dr. Matthew Lynde, tracked down just 768 discrete sales of Psystar machines—which just goes to show the importance of trailing zeroes. Apple Overtakes Nokia as Most Profitable Phone Maker

Apple is now the single most profitable phone maker in the US, Strategy Analytics said. Although it has just 2.5 percent share and makes just two similar iPhone models, Apple is estimated to have generated about $1.6 billion in operating profit from its cellphones in the summer where market leader Nokia said it had only generated $1.1 billion. Nokia's second-place finish comes despite it being one of the most experienced phone builders and Apple having only entered the category in 2007. read more...
