The optical drives should only appear in about 3.9 percent of PCs this year but, even by 2013, aren't expected to occupy more than 16.3 percent of desktops and notebooks. It's not clear when or if Blu-ray would ever replace DVD drives as the primary optical format. read more...

Go to top

No, You're Not Infected

The chain of events goes like this: A perfectly legitimate URL is hijacked by scammers and you re redirected to a page. That page is designed in such a way that several dialog boxes pop-up, warning you that your computer is infected. Click Cancel and you ll just get more warnings and an interface that makes it appear like your computer is being scanned. First, relax. Your Mac wasn t invaded, infected, compromised, co-opted, or conquered. If you d clicked through a few of those dire pop-up warnings you might have been amused to see a phony Windows Security Alert appear on a Macintosh. What you ve encountered is termed scareware a scam that attempts to frighten those confronted with these pages into downloading a hunk of software that will allegedly deal with the problem. read more...

Go to top

Apple Tops Tech Support Rankings for 2009

Apple has maintained a decisive lead in technical support rankings for 2009, according to a new Laptop study. Of ten major companies tested, only Apple managed an "A" grade for its help, earning it across both its ability to solve problems on calls and online; it also kept hold times to under five minutes and located its support only in North America. Of the group, however, it was the largest PC builders -- Acer, Dell and HP -- that fared the poorest and were handed "C-" grades. read more...

Go to top

Apple Logo Designer Dishes on History

Even people who aren t Apple fans recognize the company s distinctive, iconic logo; it ranks up there with the Nike swoosh or NBC peacock. But most probably aren t familiar with the story behind the design. First created in 1977, the Apple logo was the handiwork of Rob Janoff, an art director at advertising and public relations firm Regis McKenna. In a lengthy interview with Creative Bits s Ivan Raszl, Janoff talks about the history behind his classic design, including dispelling many of the rumors around it, such as the significance of the apple s bite. read more...

Go to top

Edit Your Profile
Make changes to your profile, such as email address, phone number, etc. You must be registered to receive birthday presents!

Make a Payment
If you have an invoice and want to pay online, now you can!
