Calculation speed in cells in Excel spreadsheets has been increased up to 24 percent, according to Mike Tedesco, senior product manager at Microsoft s MacBU. The outline view in Microsoft Word has also been overhauled and now works up to 10 times faster than before. What s more, Word boots up faster than ever, as well. read more...

Go to top

RIAA Agrees: "DRM is Dead"

Long-time proponent of digital rights management (DRM) protection for music files, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has finally acknowledged that DRM has become obsolete, according to a recent report from TorrentFreak. DRM prevents buyers of digital music tracks from copying them to other devices in an attempt to curb illegal copying. But now, with major music retailers abandoning the format to appease the wishes of the paying public, RIAA chief spokesman Jonathan Lamy says the protection's death is now a matter of fact. read more...

Go to top

Browser Comparison 2009

With the latest versions of Apple s Safari and Mozilla s Firefox recently released, it became time for a browser comparison to test whether or not improvements in standards and raw speed have made a difference. This is especially true given the rapid shift in market share from Internet Explorer's one-time dominance: according to Statcounter, Internet Explorer currently commands just 61 percent of the browser market, while Firefox has climbed to second place with 30 percent market share and the last 9 percent shared between Chrome, Opera, Safari and smaller rivals. Internet Explorer may still have the largest share of the browser market, but after these tests we're wondering why. There are no redeeming qualities to the software's performance or ability to draw websites, and it's bad enough that we would recommend any other browser over Internet Explorer unless it's absolutely required. Just as in the tests, IE is tangibly slower in common use and sometimes creates problems with viewing sites as they were intended. read more...

Go to top

Apple to Pass Nokia in Smartphone Share by 2013

Apple's share of the smartphone market is growing quickly enough that it could overtake Nokia's in as little as four years, according to data from Generator Research. The analyst group sees the market almost reversing itself from its situation today and believes Nokia will tumble from about 40 percent share today to just 20 percent in 2013. iPhones, meanwhile, should accelerate and hit 33 percent of the market at the same point. Apple would match Nokia's share sometime in 2011 and ship as many as 77 million phones that year. read more...

Go to top

60% of Businesses to Avoid Windows 7

Despite Microsoft's hopes for Windows 7, most companies are likely to pass on the system entirely, a study today suggests. Of the more than 1,000 companies involved in the ScriptLogic investigation, 60 percent say they have no plans to upgrade at all, while 34 percent don't expect to move on the platform until sometime in 2010. Only 5.4 percent actually plan to update in 2009. read more...

Go to top

Edit Your Profile
Make changes to your profile, such as email address, phone number, etc. You must be registered to receive birthday presents!

Make a Payment
If you have an invoice and want to pay online, now you can!
